Renovation of an above-ground bunker in Siegen
Luxury living in a bunker: although it sounds somewhat contradictory, it was made possible after an extensive renovation of an above-ground bunker located in Sigsberg Street in Siegen, Germany. This interesting project was realized by the company modulbüro. To create new apartments in a former bunker was indeed a challenging design task. During the planning it was necessary to consider not only the specific features of this extraordinary bunker built in the years of 1941 and 1942, but also its location and surroundings. However, creative talent and enthusiasm can make wonders happen! We are very pleased we could participate in the project and at the same time proud to have contributed to a new luxury apartment house in Siegen.
The apartment unit presented here is characterised by a long, narrow layout of the kitchen and living area, which required accurate, customized planning and precise design. The wall lines end freely and continue towards the dining table to make the room look optically wider and pleasantly lighter at the same time. At the opposite end of the simply designed kitchen unit we can find a utility room with an oven and a wainscot panel wall which all represent visible design elements. By looking around the corner you may reveal a cleverly hidden washing machine and a dryer. As the utility room and the kitchen are separated from each other only by a glass-made sliding door, the counter is consciously fitted here with a separating joint.
The small, mobile kitchen island which can be used not only as a preparation area, but also as a breakfast island provides a lively contrast to the intentionally minimalist white kitchen. It is equipped with a knife drawer, decorated with a solid wood slatted frame and offers additional storage space. This piece of furniture has become a favourite item with customers from many reasons! Always mobile and functional while it can also be designed and manufactured in multiple versions.
